As a GP keenly interested in contraceptive choices and in male and female sexual health practice, I decided to purposely study for re-certification of my DFSRH- plus payment of the annual fees. Alongside the triennial study cycles which I complete as part of my Royal College of Australian GPs' membership ('continuing professional development'), and the annual refresher CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation updates) courses, this is the only part of my practice and the only one of my qualifications that needs to be re-certified on an ongoing basis, promoting ongoing study and reflection and enhancing my knowledge of best practice, whilst adding to safe practice.
